A systems analyst is a job in the administrative field in an organization that relies on computer systems for its daily business operations. An analyst is responsible for analyzing the type of system the organization needs as well as the user requirements for that system. Therefore, a person in this position would spend a fair amount of time consulting with the officials of the organization to determine these needs, establishing work schedules and either designing new systems or redesigning older ones to ensure that they meet these needs.

In large organizations, the computer systems must be capable of folding large amounts of information. They must also be accessible to the other personnel in the company so that they can access the data whenever they need to. The systems analyst may supervise the work of technicians in developing and installing the system as well as giving directions to the programmers for writing the necessary programs. In this position, you can have a system that works well with available software to make the jobs easier for the staff. If the use of a computer system is something new to the organization you will be responsible for delivering presentations to the staff and providing them with the appropriate training for operating within the confines of the system.

A systems analyst has to test the software programs to ensure they are compatible with the system. This involves the preparation of spreadsheets, flow charts and diagram charts for the programmers. The various components of the system need to be compatible so that all users can share information across various departments. All the computers in the organizations offices must be connected to the central system. In addition, there may also be a need for users to access the system from outside the organization through laptops or personal computers when they work from home or as they travel in connection with their job.

The formal education you need in order to be hired as a systems analyst is at least a Bachelor’s degree in computer Science. You may also have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a course in Information technology combined with a variety of specialized certificates. The type of certification program you take depends on the needs of the organization you work with. The certification is recognized globally and is valid for a lifetime.

Employers look at more than the educational qualifications when they are hiring for the position of systems analyst. Experience in this field is beneficial as it demonstrates that you do have the practical skills needed for the job. In addition, employers look for personnel who have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills as these are essential to the job. An analyst must also be able to develop good working relationships with co-workers and be a team player. This is one field where the job outlook is better than in other fields. With the many advances in technology businesses and organizations want someone in their personnel who can keep up with these changes and improve the computer systems that already exist.
