As the job title suggests, the main duty of an administrative coordinator is to coordinate all the administrative duties that take place in an office setting. The work environment for this position will typically be in a large corporation where there are many facets to the administration responsibilities and many workers needed to carry out these tasks. The coordinator will oversee the various tasks managing and supervising the support staff and scheduling projects so that there are no conflicting issues. It may involve supervising technical and clerical staff, implementing office procedures or providing direct assistance to the managerial staff.

The job of administrative coordinator is a high-ranking position in the administrative field. In this position, you will have direct responsibility fro many tasks and perform specialized or challenging work. You must be able to work independently and therefore demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making skills. Providing training for entry-level staff and evaluating their performance is usually one of the responsibilities, as is developing and monitoring an office budget. You will need to be knowledgeable about all aspects of the office operation and the company policies and procedures. In your daily tasks, you will be ensuring that the rest of the staff adhere to these policies and implement the proper procedures for handling their assigned duties.

Preparing forms and reports for presentations is a part of the job of administrative coordinator. You will have to report to your superiors on the progress of various projects and perhaps make recommendations on changes that may be needed to see them through to completion. You will need to be skilled in methods of research in order to find information for your supervisor on various topics related to these projects.



You will also receive visitors and answer questions about the business of the corporation or institution in your role as administrative coordinator. This requires excellent interpersonal skills as well as proper telephone etiquette and customer service skills. Preparing various types of correspondence or proofreading correspondence before it leaves the office is also a responsibility of this position. The blame for any correspondence that goes out containing mistakes or incorrect information will fall on your shoulders.

To qualify for the position of administrative coordinator, you do need either a two-year course in office administration from a technical or vocational college or a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from an accredited university. You also need experience working in an office environment having taken on the responsibility of many roles. Leadership experience is also important because you will have to demonstrate that you have expertise in this area in your job. Proficiency in the use of a computer and various computer software necessary for office work is essential for the role of administrative coordinator, as well as skill in the use of standard office equipment. Depending on the corporation or institution you work with, there may be travel involved in your job as you visit various sites to check on the progress of the projects and prepare reports.
