JOB OVERVIEW

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-classs health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

The Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is a minimum 0.80 FTE position that provides administrative oversight of all the personnel and activities of the Office of Student Affairs. Specifically, the ADSA provides oversight of the following medical student activities: Academic Support, Wellness and Student Peformance, Career Development and Advising, Financial Services, Residency Match, Student Records Management, Student Achievement and Events, and Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Standards specific to the Office of Student Affairs. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs of the College of Medicine.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage the Office of Student Affairs (SA):

*Manage faculty and staff within the Office of SA and MedOneStop. *Prepare annual budgets. *Involvement with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) through regional and national committee involvement (i.e., Central Group on Student Affairs (CGSA), Group on Student Affairs (GSA), Careers in Medicine (CiM)). *Maintain/manage student records post-matriculation. *Oversee program evaluation of SA which includes the systematic collection of information on activities, support services, and outcomes of programs to make judgments about the program, improve program effectiveness, and/or inform decisions about future program development.

Comprehensive Support Services, Advising and Student Performance:

*Provide financial support services and counseling. *Provide support and resources to students experiencing stressors that may disrupt their performance and/or progression through the curriculum. *Liaison to the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) to develop and monitor support services for underrepresented in medicine (URiM) students. *Collaborate with UC offices to serve medical student needs (i.e., Student Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)). *Serve as non-voting member on the Performance and Advancement Committees (PAC) that monitor student progression through the curriculum, advise students in their preparation to appear before a PAC. *Serve as a liaison to the student Honor Council co-chairs, advise to students in their preparation to appear before the Honor Council. *Serve as faculty advisor to the Medical Student Association (MSA) class co-presidents and to the UCCOM student representatives to the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR). *Serve as a career advisor for students as they progress through the residency match process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED

Collaboration with Other Medical Student Offices:

*Collaborate with Offices of Admissions and Medical Education to organize the orientation schedule. *Collaborate with Office of Medical Education on initiatives and serve on appropriate committees to develop, monitor, and revise curriculum content as well as to determine structure and organization that best meets the needs of students. *Collaborate with UC Health healthcare system representative(s), including University Health Services (UHS), to provide access to health services and maintain annual compliance requirements necessary for students to rotate at UC Health clinical sites and the sites of other clinical affiliates.

Learning Environment Monitoring:

*Create/manage the procedure for student reports of mistreatment in alignment with federal and university policies governing the Office of Gender Equity & Inclusion (OGEI) and the Office of Equal Opportunity & Access (OEOA).

Student Achievement and Special Student Recognition Events:

*Oversight of student events including White Coat, Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS), Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Honor Medical Society, and Student Clinician Ceremony. *Manage student events (i.e., Match Day and Honors Day) in collaboration with students and the UCCOM Dean's Office.

Scholarship:

*Maintain scholarly activity related to SA (i.e., regional/national presentations, abstracts, publications).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

*Medical degree (or other terminal degree) and at least five years of experience as a member of the faculty at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. *A minimum of three years of experience in an administrative role, preferably that involved oversight of other faculty and/or staff.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

*If applicable, the candidate is expected to maintain activity in the clinical practice of medicine, teaching and/or research while serving as the ADSA. *Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrating strong interpersonal skills with peers, learners, and administration. *Displays demonstrable experience in being able to work independently and collaboratively with others. *Shows evidence of a commitment to mentoring and developing students and staff.
