Let’s start at the beginning. About us:
We are a medium-sized, independent law firm based in Reading and we’re looking for both a Paralegal and a Team Assistant to join our Real Estate team.
We offer a broad range of legal services to commercial organisations and individuals alike and pride ourselves on providing a client-centred, high-quality service.
Joining FSP
We are particularly well known for our friendly and supportive culture, which has been a core part of our philosophy since we were founded over 30 years ago. We have a strong social ethos here and joining our ‘Family FSP’ you can be confident you’ll be looked after and supported throughout your career. We work as a team and encourage personal development and a healthy work-life balance here. We’re passionate about supporting our local community and social activities across our teams and wider firm. Read through our FSP Employee Benefits below for more detail on what you can expect with this role.
The roles
Our Real Estate Team is the largest in Reading and prides itself on providing City quality work outside London. Our exceptional lawyers handle a wide range of property transactions – including the acquisition and disposal of interests in real estate on individual sites and property portfolios, planning, environment and construction work, landlord and tenant matters and taxation and finance issues. As a paralegal in the team you’ll get great experience by assisting qualified lawyers across the transactional (non-contentious) teams. The role is more than simply helping them with administrative tasks, although some occasional admin work will be required. The majority of your time will be spent in client work including: reviewing and reporting on legal documents, undertaking research, preparing reports, drafting correspondence, undertaking company searches, client due diligence, on-line data room management, drafting and filing SDLT returns and assisting with (and, in time, managing) exchanges and completions on property transfers. You could find yourself working on any type of property work happening within the team. As your experience develops, you’ll have direct client contact and increasing responsibility.
We think it’s a great starting point to build a quality legal career. We’re passionate about development at FSP, and so, for the successful candidate, we’d encourage conversations with you around opportunities we have at FSP for training to qualify as a solicitor – including through our Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship route.
Candidates must have a strong academic record including, as a minimum, a 2.1 law degree or GDL/conversion commendation and be able to commit to a full-time role. You’ll be able to demonstrate a strong intellect, excellent communication skills and a ‘can do’ attitude.
We are happy to consider applications from Paralegals wanting to seek a career with development in the role and/or Paralegals wanting ultimately to qualify as a solicitor.
We are also happy to consider applications from Team Assistants similarly seeking a career in a key-critical support role and/or those wishing to develop their skills and become a paralegal.
