Civil Defense Litigation Attorney

This office has a busy insurance defense, premises liability, transportation, employment, and general commercial litigation practice. Candidates should have significant litigation experience handling discovery, motion work, depositions and court proceedings.
Depending upon the qualifications of the candidate, this position may be either a senior associate or senior attorney position. Future potential for shareholdership. The firm offers a hybrid work policy and this position is eligible to be remote after training.

Position responsibilities include:
Manage files through litigation process
Represent clients in both negotiations and in court proceedings, including mediations, trials, evidentiary hearings, and motions
Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses and legal correspondence
Handle all aspects of discovery
Research legal issues
Written and oral communication with clients, witnesses and opposing counsel
Position qualifications include:
5 years litigation experience
Admitted to State Bar of Michigan and be in good standing

Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary – SOUTHFIELD
We are currently accepting applications for a full-time Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to work out of our Southfield office. Experience working in Litigation preferred.
This position provides administrative support to attorneys and paralegals to ensure the legal work product produced for clients is professional in appearance, error-free, timely, and meets the expectations of the client. This position will be involved in client intake, billing, client communication, legal document formatting and production, effective use of legal technology and file maintenance.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Draft, update, and assemble pleadings, agreements and other legal documents for filing with various courts or other entities, or delivering to clients as directed by attorneys
Maintain systems for tracking key dates and keep pertinent people informed of key dates
Maintain all client files and cases in an up-to-date and professional manner to ensure needed information is easily accessible whenever and by whoever needs it
Utilize and understand firm systems including the document management system, systems to compare and enhance documents, adobe acrobat, the time and billing system, Office 365, and others as introduced to effectively and efficiently create and maintain documents and to accurately bill clients for the work completed
Open new client matters and coordinate conflict checks; close client matters in a timely manner as approved by the responsible attorney and all in accordance with firm procedures
Proofread and edit documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation and format
Perform other administrative duties such as: scheduling appointments, composing and typing routine correspondence, making copies, maintaining calendars, electronic filing, and opening and processing incoming mail
Communicate with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and staff in a professional manner
Review, proof and edit pre-bills in a timely manner per attorney instruction
Position Qualifications Include:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree a plus
Must be able to deliver a high quality work product
Must have a solid understanding of English grammar
Must be able to effectively proofread and edit documents
Must have a minimum of two years of office administration experience, law firm experience a plus
