The Washington, DC office of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Bilingual Project Legal Assistant in the International Arbitration Group. Applicants should submit their cover letter, resume, school transcript and a short writing sample for consideration.
The Bilingual Project Legal Assistant provides support under direct supervision of attorneys, specialists and senior legal assistants on various client and firm matters on a wide range of legal tasks from case inception through case closure in English and Spanish.
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Organizing case documents, compiling case materials, and working with attorneys during a written phase and hearings.
Attending hearings for production of witness and expert binders, exhibits, and demonstratives.
Assisting with document collection and expert profiling for attorney review.
Cite checking, researching authorities, and preparing legal exhibits for arbitration submissions.
Arranging for case logistics, copying requests, and document organization.
Distributing case materials, documents, and researching materials requested by attorneys.
Maintaining, indexing and organizing case files and workrooms.
Indexing and organizing files for off-site storage.
Assisting with department projects and performing other administrative work-related duties as needed.
Establishing and maintaining case files, documents collections and chronologies.
Drafting correspondence, fact checking and proofreading documents.
Conducting computer searches, researches and case management functions on client databases or firm resources such as Trial Director, LiveNote, Opus 2 Magnum, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, the Internet.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to speak, read and write English and Spanish fluently.
A minimum of a high school diploma, with a bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
Excellent academic record.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
Possess reliability, dependability and motivation.
Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written.
Exceptional client service, both internal and external.
Highly detail-oriented, including the ability to assess and respond to underlying detail issues and implications.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collegiality.
Proven ability to multi-task and set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional problem solving skills, critical thinking abilities and the ability to work well under pressure.
Flexibility to work overtime as necessary, including nights, weekends and holidays as well as travel, as necessary.
